WHAT IS LEED V3?
Check out the FAQs!
LEED V3 is the next version of the LEED green building certification system. LEED v3 builds on the fundamental structure and familiarity of the existing rating system, but provides a new structure for making sure the rating system incorporates new technology and addresses the most urgent priorities like energy use and CO2 emissions. LEED v3 consists of three components:
· LEED 2009: technical advancements to the LEED Green Building Rating Systems’ credits and points
· LEED Online: an upgrade to LEED Online that is faster and easier to use, featuring new help options
· New building certification model: an expanded certification infrastructure based on ISO standards, administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) for improved capacity, speed and performance

CHANGES IN EDUCATION AND THE NEW CREDENTIAL SYSTEM
The USGBC is the primary resource for education on LEED and Green Building. The USGBC’s core curriculum also provides foundational knowledge about green building and LEED that supports professionals pursuing any LEED credential. For those who already hold a LEED credential, USGBC’s education offerings – both its core curriculum and Education Provider program offerings – support LEED credential maintenance. Continuing education offered by USGBC and its Education Providers facilitates lifelong learning and access to the best quality education in the industry.
USGBC’s suite of green building educational offerings – including in-person workshops, online courses, live and on-demand webinar series, and Education Provider Program courses – continues to be developed and improved to reflect the best and most current in green building science, technology and best practices. Now, USGBC’s LEED core curriculum is evolving even more to reflect the LEED 2009 rating systems. The curriculum also supports GBCI’s new credential maintenance requirements for the LEED AP credential and candidates seeking to become a LEED AP or a LEED Green Associate. Upper-level courses have concurrently been bolstered in a number ways to meet the needs of green building professionals seeking information to implement in LEED projects.
USGBC’s core curriculum is offered in a variety of formats. The following table illustrates what new courses were created to align with the USGBC’s educational programming and GBCI’s new credentials:
